Meet the School Horses

Trio

Trio

was born locally in 2001 and although she is a registered paint, she is a solid bay in colour. Trio is 14.2 h.h. which is a great size as she can accommodate just about everybody. Trio is full of co-operation and goodwill and loves going out on the trails. She was originally trained western and so has a lovely gentle jog and slow soft canter, however, given an opportunity she will gallop like the devil is after her! She also is ridden English and jumps with enthusiasm.

Houdini horse at Legacy Riding Centre

Houdini

was a SPCA rescue. Born in 2003, this sensitive intelligent pony aims to please. She is a beautiful mover and a favourite for all who ride her. She comes when you call and will follow you anywhere. She has the potential to be an excellent jumper.

Smouch

Smouch

is an aged 12.1 hh dark bay pony gelding. He enjoys being the center of attention and does not mind children crawling all over, or under, him! He lets the cats and chickens on him as well. We found out he loves to free jump. He was clearing 3 foot fences with ease this winter and having a ball! He loves going on trail rides and is just the right size for little people.

Prittlewell at Legacy Equestrian Centre - Horse riding in Nova Scotia

Whisper

is a 14.1 h.h. tobiano mare who was bought at an action in 2006 as a 2 year old. She has turned out to be amazing! She is used as a school horse, trail rides, lunge lessons and vaulting. She loves trail rides and has started jumping. We also have been has the most amazing temperament. We were free jumping her the other day while they were re-shingling the arena roof (all sorts of noise and nailing) and she jumped 3’6” from a trot without batting an eye.

Darby at Legacy Equestrian Centre - Horse riding in Nova Scotia

Darby

is a chestnut gelding who was bought at an action in 2006 as a 4 year old. At one point I think he wanted to be a pinto as he has a patch of white on his belly but changed his mind and decided to try and be a roan. He hasn’t been successful with any of them so we just call him chestnut. He stands15.1 h.h. and we suspect he is part Arab. He gets the gold star for the most improved the summer of 2009. He loves his job as a school horse and is great on trail rides. He is simply unflappable. He has started jumping (the fences grrr) and shows great potential.

Ace at Legacy Equestrian Centre - Horse riding in Nova Scotia

Ace

is a registered 15 h.h. Haflinger gelding born in 2001. He is solid as a brick wall and loves everybody and everything. Nothing worries him. He is a happy, willing and co-operative on the ground and in the saddle. Ace is owned by the Snyders and is generously loaned to us when needed during summer camp.

Gypsy

Jewel

is a 14 h.h. bay purebred Arabian. Born in 1991 she spent the majority of her life producing beautiful babies. She is very laid back and gentle natured. She loves the attention the little riders give her and seems really happy with her new life as a school pony.

I Don't

I Don’t Care

known as “I Don’t”, is a finely built 13.3 h.h.bay Quarter Horse Morgan cross. Born in 2005 and brought to Legacy in 2009, he is such a bomb proof guy he quickly developed the name of I Don’t Care because he literally doesn’t care what you do, he is OK with it.

Gypsy - a school horse living at Legacy Equestrian Centre in New Germany, NS

Gypsy

is a 12.3 h.h. aged black pony mare. She is a purebred Newfoundland Pony who is trained to ride and for the cart. Gypsy is owned by the Wheelers and is generously loaned to us when needed during summer camp.

Oakley - a school horse living at Legacy Equestrian Centre in New Germany, NS

Oakley

is an unregistered Newfoundland pony and that stands 13.1 h.h. We plan to get him DNA tested just for the fun of it! He is a solid bay with the lovely thick mane and tail of a NF pony. The vet indicates he is rising twelve so he was likely born in 1998. Although he is a typically “opinionated” pony, he settles down quickly once the facts of life are explained to him. He loves to jump and is a fabulous trail horse.

Daisy Mae - a school horse living at Legacy Equestrian Centre in New Germany, NS

Daisy Mae

is our little pretender! When we got her she told us she was pregnant and so “couldn’t” participate in anything strenuous. Unluckily for her, the vet soon squashed that myth so now she is on the roster for full use. She is a13.1 h.h. registered Newfoundland Pony #537 and was born June 19, 1999. She is a solid bay with lovely thick mane and tail. She loves to jump and really enjoys being out on the trails.

Milky Way - a school horse living at Legacy Equestrian Centre in New Germany, NS

Milky Way

is a flashy chestnut overo gelding who was bought at an action in 2006 as a 4 year old. He was named by a student who was studying the Milky Way in school. He stands15.1 h.h., has a narrow build and is used for our intermediate riders. He is a lovely jumper and loves trails.

Evian - a school horse living at Legacy Equestrian Centre in New Germany, NS

Legacy's Evian

is our “baby!” She was born July 24 2007. Her mother was Perrier a lovely dark gray, white blanket appaloosa who was bought at an auction in 2006 as a 6 year old. We believe Evian’s sire was a big grey draft stallion that I saw at the auction, but we will never know for sure. Evian looks like she will be a steel gray like her mother but with no blanket, just black and white splashes on her rump. She presently stands about 15.2 h.h. and I expect she will keep growing until she is 4 or 5 years old. She shows all the signs of being a wonderful school horse.

Charmer - a school horse living at Legacy Equestrian Centre in New Germany, NS

Tina's Charmer

Charmer was owned by my friend Tina Illingworth. He came to us as a six year old stallion in the spring of 2010. He spent the first few years of his life with his mother and the last few totally alone and so had not been socialized with other horses. I would have to measure him again but I believe he stands about 14 HH. He has been backed and seems eager to please. He is very flashy under saddle and would make a good show pony.

Oliver - a school horse living at Legacy Equestrian Centre in New Germany, NS

Oliver

Oliver was a quarter horse cross born in 2007. He is very mischievous and loves attention.
